TDSB Back to School Plan Update
[With corrections to Secondary School Quad 1 Start Date]
Dear Friends
The TDSB board has passed our latest version of back to school plans with changeds made to our elementary and secondary in-school learning models. This latest change is as a result of the Province of Ontario indicating that they were not in-support of our original back to school plans and requested for amendments. I apologize for the many version of our reopening plans that you have seen so far, however I also want to be clear that every iteration are results of feedback from our parent community and other stakeholders to make our reopening safer and more effective for students. I have outlined the highlights of our latest plans below.
School Start Date for all learning models: September 15, 2020, with possibilities of some schools starting in a staggered manner within 3 day after September 15th.
Pre-Registration Round 2: All parents will receive another round of pre-registration survey with the new learning models. Parents who have emails registered at the TDSB will receive an email, those who do not will recieve automated phone calls or be contacted by school.

Elementary and Middle School In-School Learning
In-school learning for elementary and middle school learning will commence 5 days per week with slightly reduced class sizes. Cohorted classes will stay together and with one teacher (one teacher and one DECE in kindergarten), where possible. Students can expect to see changes in the timing of recesses, lunches, and washroom breaks as they are staggered to support cohorting. Specialized teachers, like French teachers, will still be able to go into classrooms to provide the full breadth of programming for students.
The TDSB has allocated funding for an additional 366 teachers through deficit spending using reserve funding mainly from employee disability insurances plans, and will redeploy 400 teachers from other functions to reduce the number of students per class. The province have also contributed $6.3M to assist. Below chart outlines the expected students per class as of August 20th, 2020 (subject to change with new information).
