The Savings and Investing module introduces students to the importance of setting financial goals and using saving and investing strategies to reach them. Students learn how building savings early can support both short-term needs and long-term financial success.
Students explore key concepts such as:
|
- The difference between saving and investing.
- How interest and compound growth help money increase over time.
- Common savings options like emergency funds and savings accounts.
- Basic investment tools, including stocks, bonds and retirement accounts.
|
|
|
|
By understanding risk, return and time horizon, students can make informed decisions about how to grow their money and prepare for future financial goals.
To learn more, review the Savings and Investing module at OklahomaMoneyMatters.org.
|
The Retirement Planning module helps students understand why preparing for retirement early is an important part of financial well-being. Even small contributions made early in life can grow significantly over time.
Students will learn about:
|
- Different types of retirement accounts, such as employer-sponsored plans and IRAs.
- The role of compound interest in long-term growth.
- How consistent contributions over time build financial security.
- Factors that affect retirement readiness, including savings habits and lifestyle choices.
|
This module emphasizes the value of starting early and developing habits that support long-term financial independence.
Starting early gives students a powerful advantage. Small contributions made consistently over time can grow significantly, making it easier to reach long-term goals. By prioritizing retirement planning early, students can build financial security, reduce stress and create more options for their future.
To learn more, review the Retirement Planning module at OklahomaMoneyMatters.org.

To access all 14 Personal Financial Literacy modules, visit the High School Students section at OklahomaMoneyMatters.org. Students are encouraged to read each standard and take the interactive quiz at the end of the lesson. Quiz results can be emailed directly to their counselor or instructor afterwards.
If you have any questions or would like to request in-person instruction, please reach out to Ann Thaxton (athaxton@ocap.org), OKMM’s High School Financial Education Specialist.
