TRANSFORMATION INITIATIVE |
-
CTO is actively recruiting 11 roles (over 55 open positions), and a new Training and Education Specialist role will be posted soon. You are encouraged to review these positions and apply to any that align with your unique skillsets and interests.
-
Fifty-one trials have entered Fast Lane, 14 of which have been activated to date across the Lung, Breast, GU, Gyn, H&N, BMT, Skin and ET disease teams. Kudos to the cross-functional teams across UCSD for their outstanding efforts to prioritize these high-priority trials for Moores patients.
-
CTO has completed the retrospective review of over 150 PRMS Balanced Scorecard responses across all Disease Teams. CTO continues to advance process improvement opportunities, which include the development of a Clinical Trial Budgeting SOP. Thanks to the members of the Business and Finance Process Workstreams for their continued support of these initiatives.
-
The Data/Technology Workstream is implementing functionality in Epic to automatically notify CRCs of procedure results linked to their research study(ies). Coordinators should monitor their Epic InBasket ‘CC’d Results’ tab for their patients’ procedure results. Thanks to the Epic Research team for its support of CTO initiatives.
-
Keep the feedback coming! You are encouraged to continue woking with your managers and sharing your feedback, as it informs future communications and upcoming Town Hall topics.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION (EDI) |
November is Native American Heritage Month |
Moores is proud to celebrate its unique culture by recognizing November as Native American Heritage Month, in alignment with a draft statement by the UCSD Intertribal Resource Center:
The UC San Diego community holds great respect for the land and the original people of the area where our campus is located. The university is built on the un-ceded territory of the Kumeyaay Nation. Today, the Kumeyaay people continue to maintain their political sovereignty and cultural traditions as vital members of the San Diego community. We acknowledge their tremendous contributions to our region and thank them for their stewardship.
The Intertribal Resource Center is working with Kumeyaay community members and the campus community to create an official statement for UC San Diego. Please visit https://itrc.ucsd.edu/ for more information and resources to help Moores celebrate you.
Moores Members are encouraged to contact EDI to recognize Native staff, researchers, faculty, or trainees (students) who have contributed to the community. Please share your nominees' names, email, and two to three sentences about their contribution to Moores, patient care, and/or research at mcc_edi@health.ucsd.edu.

New Moores Associate Director for EDI, Dr. Melody Schiaffino, and members of her EDI team hosted a celebration for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Nearly 300 MCC Members were in attendance to take part in Pan Dulce (light breakfast), Cafecito (coffee), and a screening of Disney’s Coco. The EDI team was overjoyed by the participation and response to this cultural initiative that served as a catalyst for conversation around the Moores EDI program.
Our team was approached with so much gratitude and positive feedback throughout the day. We are so excited to continue our work to celebrate, support, and work together to build a culture of belonging at Moores. We had so many different units and roles represented, I look forward to keeping that momentum going.
–Melody Schiaffino, Ph.D., M.P.H.
About Dia de los Muertos
|
- Día de los Muertos was declared a World Heritage Festival by UNESCO in 2008.
- It is an indigenous celebration from Mexico.
- It is celebrated November 1 and 2 with an ofrenda (altar), food, and family. Often costumes (Catrinas) and masked parades occur in many cities in Mexico and globally.
- The ofrenda (altar), core of the celebration, are colorful tables decorated with candles, food, photographs, papel picado, and other items that celebrate ancestors.
- Other staples for the altar are cempasúchil (marigolds) and Pan de Muertos.
|
Holidays to celebrate ancestors or departed loved ones can be found around the world! Is there a celebration we should include going forward? Let the EDI team know how they can improve as it grows and learns at mcc_edi@health.ucsd.edu.
