Dear student,
I am writing to provide an update on the quarantine requirements that were sent out by our office on July 28. We have been receiving many questions, and we realize there has been some confusion regarding the answers to some of these questions. We have now met with Student Health Services staff to clarify the information regarding quarantine requirements.
Who is required to quarantine?
Student Health Services has confirmed that the following students are required to quarantine after entering the US from abroad:
  • Unvaccinated students
  • Students who have received a vaccine that is not authorized by either the FDA or the WHO
Who is not required to quarantine?
Student Health Services has clarified that the following students are exempt from the quarantine requirement:
  • Students who have received at least one dose of an FDA-authorized vaccine prior to arrival in the US
  • Students who have received at least one dose of a WHO-authorized vaccine prior to arrival in the US
    • Note that this is new information - previously, we stated that those who had received one dose of a WHO-authorized vaccine were required to quarantine
When does the seven-day quarantine period begin?
Student Health Services has clarified that the quarantine period begins upon entering the United States. Even if you have to take another flight and/or bus or other transportation to get to campus, the quarantine period is considered to have begun upon your initial entry into the US. You should be careful to take all safety precautions such as wearing a mask and distancing yourself from others until you can arrive at your quarantine location.
Can I obtain a vaccine after arrival in order to be exempt from quarantine requirements?
No. Student Health Services has clarified that at least the first dose of your FDA- or WHO-authorized vaccine must have been received prior to arrival in the US in order to be exempt from the quarantine requirement. You are strongly encouraged to obtain the vaccine (or remaining doses of the vaccine) as soon as possible after your quarantine period ends.
Please note that our volume of emails is very high right now, so responses may be delayed. We appreciate your patience, and we look forward to welcoming you to campus soon!

Sincerely,
Molly Heidemann
