Message from the President - November 2017
November is a time to be thankful. As President of this wonderful institution, I have much to be thankful for. Two recent events reminded me how much I am thankful for our community and its commitment to education. I was recently able to attend and participate in two remarkable community events: Salute to Teachers and the Partners in Education Breakfast.
The annual Salute to Teachers event is presented by the Santa Barbara County Education Office and Cox Communications. It is the premier teacher recognition event held in honor of teachers countywide. I was honored to be able to recognize Kelly Keene from San Marcos High School with the Distinguished New Educator Award.
Just last week, I was able to participate in the annual Partnerships Breakfast hosted by Partners in Education. This year, I am thrilled to serve as President of the Board of Directors for this nonprofit organization dedicated to education. It was a morning where we learned more about the work of the organization and heard a powerful and moving testimony from a local high school student who has been personally impacted by the work of Partners in Education.
As we get closer to the Thanksgiving holiday, I’d like to express my thanks for the support I have received from the community and for your continued support of the work we are doing at Santa Barbara City College. I know that each one of our faculty members, administrators, managers, and staff are committed to making this institution the best it can be – all while keeping students at the center.
