Our Newest Team Members
We are pleased to announce the addition of three new staff members to Stout Online, pictured above, left to right: Shannen Domecq, Megan Daniels and David Anthony.

Shannen Domecq is our new program manager/student support specialist. She will manage the following degree and certificate programs:
  • MS in Manufacturing Engineering
  • MS in Marriage and Family Therapy

Both David and Megan will use their training in game design and development to produce custom graphic and interactive course elements, such as infographics and e-learning modules, for use in online instruction.
Welcome, Shannen, David and Megan!
Making the News
UW-Stout's online programming has made the news twice in recent weeks:
In its list of Best Online Colleges in Wisconsin, Best Colleges ranked UW-Stout No. 1. Two other national ranking organizations also recognized the BS in Information and Communication Technologies and the MS in Operation and Supply Management.
Our relatively new Social Work Professional Certificate has already given graduates opportunities for advancement.

Registration and Records
This issue’s spotlight is on Vicki Anderson and Darci Ward, both of whom serve the registration needs for our customized instruction courses.
How long have you worked for the university and in what capacity?
Vicki has worked at UW-Stout for 15 years. She's been a part of the Graduate School, Registration and Records, and UW-Stout Online. Darci will celebrate 10 years in September, all in the Registration and Records office for Stout Online.
What is your current role?
Both Darci and Vicki work with students who are taking courses from a distance, as they work towards an online degree, certificate, or professional development. Vicki also emails students with information on setting up their student accounts.
What do you like most about working with the online courses?
Darci enjoys the variety in her job. She gets to do a little bit of everything. Vicki likes the fact that we have so much to offer people who can only participate in online programs, and that we are meeting a need for a lot of people across the U.S. and abroad.
What place in the U.S. would you most like to visit and why?
Both Vicki and Darci would love to see Alaska, to experience, firsthand, its beauty and remoteness, and, for Vicki, to also visit friends who live there.
Vicki, what is one of your favorite quotes?
“A lie doesn’t become truth, wrong doesn’t become right, and evil doesn’t become good just because it’s accepted by a majority.”   Rick Warren
Darci, if you could give the world one piece of advice, what would it be?
Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Helpful Tips, Strategies and Methods to Becoming a Successful Online Student
This is the second in a series of five mini-articles to help you succeed.
Communication and Access
Communication and access are the two biggest differences between online and campus-based courses.
You can access "attend" an online class from anywhere, provided you have the right technology. Here are some tips for once you're in the class:
  • As soon as the class has opened, take time to navigate the online environment.
  • When the syllabus is posted, review it and determine any questions you may have.
  • Make use of discussion boards to ask questions and share ideas.
  • Follow good communication practices: be polite, respectful and patient.
  • Be mindful of effective writing etiquette.
