Exodus 6:6
“Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.'"
New International Version (NIV)
“The beatings will continue until the morale improves.”  After Moses asked Pharaoh to let God’s people go, the king of Egypt increased the Israelites already unbearable work load.  Things were getting worse, not better.  Moses called this to God’s attention.  Then God makes this promise:  I will bring you out.

To this moment life will overwhelm us if we let it.  We may wonder:  “When will this pain end?  How will I ever get out of this predicament?”  Just when we think we have been forgotten, God reminds us that he sees, he hears and he remembers his people.

The story of the Israelites is our story.  Scholar Alex Motyer says the testimony of God’s people in the Old Testament went like this:  “We were in a foreign land, in bondage, under the sentence of death. But our mediator—the one who stands between us and God—came to us with the promise of deliverance. We trusted in the promises of God, took shelter under the blood of the lamb, and he led us out. Now we are on the way to the Promised Land. We are not there yet, of course, but we have the law to guide us, and through blood sacrifice we also have his presence in our midst. So he will stay with us until we get to our true country, our everlasting home.”  Does it sound familiar?  As God’s people today we still have the same testimony.

Pray with me:
Father we pray again today for those who feel forgotten and forsaken.  Let us hear your still small voice reminding us that you will never leave us nor forsake us.  Help us to hold on to your good promise to rescue and redeem us.  Let the truths we believe shape the way we live today.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
