Glad you (m)asked.
NYU will keep its current mask-wearing rules in place and reassess in mid-June. That will allow us to finish out the spring semester and start the summer semester safely; judge the stability of both NYU’s and NYC’s currently lower case positivity rates; permit a bit more time for more NYUers to get vaccinated and upload their vaccination info; and better evaluate vaccination rates in the NYU community.
Even though required mask-wearing will go on at least a little bit longer at NYU, we will be loosening up restrictions on some activities in the coming days and weeks (eg, permitting visits within a residence hall, re-opening athletic facilities, and permitting group meetings with masks).
We know one of the things many people look forward to in becoming fully vaccinated is moving past the restrictions and rules of the last year. NYU’s aim is to have in place no more restrictions than is necessary to carry on safely. Thanks for your patience and for continuing to do your part in keeping each other safe.
And if you haven’t yet gotten the vaccine, get vaccinated ASAP and upload the info.
