A Fall TSPPPA graduate capstone project, "Key Opportunities and Challenges for Community Investment in Community Disaster Resilience Zones" with client SPIN Global produced a report to guide impact funding data collection, analysis, and decision-making for building wildfire resilience. The client representative was GW Board of Trustees Member and TSPPPA alumna Camila Tapias, MPA ‘20. Tapias works at SPIN Global as a Global Disaster Resilience Specialist. TSPPPA alumnus and SPIN Global CEO Joel Thomas, MPA '08, was also involved with the project. The capstone team applied their decision matrix tool to four particularly vulnerable sites, including Los Angeles, California.

Newly Endowed Capstone Excellence Prize
The capstone teams and their projects from Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 will be considered for the newly named Capstone Excellence Prize, the "Salvatore Lucido Capstone Prize." This award is named in honor of the late Salvatore "Sal" Lucido, Trachtenberg alumnus, MPA ’91. Sal, a dedicated public servant, worked for the Centers for Disease Control for 32 years. The endowment for this fund will support graduate student achievement in the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration through opportunities such as providing awards to recognize top Capstone projects of Trachtenberg School graduate student teams and also supporting general graduate student needs in the Trachtenberg School. We thank Mr. Lucido for his generosity and very much appreciate his contributions as an employee of the CDC protecting public health through science-based, data-driven services.
