IVC Hosts "On the Backs of Our Ancestors" Film Screening |
IVC hosted a screening of the documentary "On the Backs of Our Ancestors," which follows local Southern California Indigenous natives as they recount the destruction of their most sacred sites. Following the screening, Professor of Ethnic Studies Araceli Centanino led a facilitated discussion. Panelists included film director Todd Perry; Acjachemen Tribal Leader Mark Mendez; Cultural Resource Director for the Juaneño Band of Mission Indians, Juanita Joyce Perry; and Cultural Resource Director for the Gabrieleño Tongva Tribe, Sam Dunlap. International Day: A Global Celebration on Campus |
IVC celebrated International Day on November 19 with a vibrant campus gathering co-sponsored by the International Student Program and International Student Club. The event featured a student-led Cultural Museum and a drum performance by Hikari Taiko. Idea Pitch Competition Final Round Showcases Student Innovation |
Student entrepreneurs, industry judges, and campus partners gathered on November 18 for the final round of the 2025 Idea Pitch Competition—an evening dedicated to innovation and creativity. Finalists who advanced from the mentor selection round presented their refined business ideas in five-minute pitches to a panel of industry experts and professional entrepreneurs. Women's Basketball Team Takes Second in a Row, Earns Sixth Win |
Irvine Valley's women's basketball team pulled out a 65-58 victory over Rio Hondo at El Camino as part of the El Camino Crossover event on November 21. It was IVC's second win in a row and the Lasers moved their record to 6-1 overall. Irvine Valley led, 18-11, after the first quarter and played a strong third quarter to help close out the victory. IVC Grad Kristine Chai Makes a Real World Impact |
Recent IVC honors graduate Kristine Chai is already making a mark in the rapidly advancing field of biotechnology. Following high school graduation, Kristine was certain she wanted to study science, so IVC’s well regarded biotechnology program was a natural choice. Now, she has graduated with top honors and been accepted to her three first choice schools – UC Los Angeles, UC Berkeley, and UC Irvine (UCI) – and is leaning towards UCI.
