Heading Back to School
Governor Walz has requested schools attempt face to face starting January 18th. As a teaching friend of mine stated, "It's like going back to school for the first time of the year and is exciting but also creates anxiety." If this is true for you, know I am here to help however I can.
Kasson-Mantorville Outstanding Educator
Jessica Marquardt, an elementary teacher won the Outstanding Educator Award on January 20th. Here is a sample of what Jessica was doing to win such a prestigious award, as Kelly Braun stated in her nomination letter:
"Jessica works tirelessly to make sure that learning is equitable for all students. Despite the challenges we faced as a country last spring, Jessica dedicated herself to making sure that learning continued. She taped
videos for all of her lessons, reworking them to use everyday materials that could be found around the home to ensure everyone moved forward with their STEM learning. As a result, Jessica inspired students to see that STEM learning doesn’t necessarily require fancy gadgets, STEM learning can be something as simple as observing a cup of water placed in the freezer."

Congratulations Jessica! We all aspire to be like you.
Stewartville
Principal, Patrick Breen, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Katie Morlock, reached out to me requesting tutorials and live interaction of using FutureForward™ with the business students for a half day. I was able to go through the website to show how to access upcoming events, such as Healthcare Month which is live now, teach the students how to find companies and professionals who are involved with the tool and how to navigate to their pages. Lastly, we were able to showcase the videos SSC has made showing different jobs and informational interviews with professionals. Katie Morlock shared after the training had occurred: "We are excited about the opportunities Future Forward is providing our students to explore different career paths."

If you would like trainings and tutorials, please reach out: jschwickerath@ssc.coop.  There are many unique things going on with the FutureForward™ tool!
Triton
Triton has a local nursing home in Dodge Center interested in partnering for the certified nurse assistant (CNA) credentialing. We will find out February 24th if we get the grant and after that, will be having more in depth conversations with local skillled nursing facilities to see if they would be interested in partneringwith the local school districts and SSC. Remain hopeful that the grant comes through!
Byron
STEM Forward also ackowledged Byron Public Schools Instructional Coaches, Janelle Groehler, Holly Vos, and Katelyn Allen as well as the Technology Support team, Matt Like, Tim Chesterman, and Phirith Pheak. They all have  played a major role in supporting our K-12 STEM education ecosystem during the Covid-19 pandemic. Congratulations to you driven people!
