Brendle Group's Team Grows
Brendle Group has added some fresh faces and new skills to our growing team - from administrative coordination and sustainability planning to back-office financial support and energy and climate engineering services.
Melanie Horton is our new Executive Assistant and Administrative Services Coordinator. She has over 6 years of administrative experience ranging from the non-profit sector to small privately owned companies, and she has her Masters degree in Environmental Leadership. Melanie comes to us from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
Conor Merrigan is the newest addition to our planning group and has been working with large-scale energy and sustainability planning and implementation for the bulk of his career. Formerly Senior Manager of Commercial Energy Efficiency at the Colorado Governor's Energy Office (now the Colorado Energy Office), he also brings to our team expertise in the U.S Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND).
Our Accountant, Jennifer Szekely, has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and over 15 years of experience. This experience and Jennifer’s dedication to the environment combine to create a strong resource for Brendle Group and its clients.
Prior to joining Brendle Group, Jonathan Woodworth worked with energy firms, national research facilities, and academia. As an engineer with Brendle Group, Jonathan is involved in numerous climate-related initiatives including greenhouse gas accounting, project development, renewable energy evaluations, and energy efficiency assessments for local governments and industry. With an advanced degree in atmospheric sciences and climate modeling, Jonathan adds robust analytical skills to our climate practice area.
Inspiring Innovation
Brendle Group's Strategic Priorities for Sustainability
At Brendle Group we periodically pause to take stock of what we've helped our clients accomplish, where we are now, and how we can best innovate for sustainability moving forward. Through a recently completed strategic planning process, we've developed several key priorites for the next few years.
Building on our 10+ years in climate change mitigation planning, we're shifting to a full-spectrum climate practice that includes both mitigating the effects of climate change while also helping clients adapt to an already changing climate, such as our work helping Salt Lake City develop its Climate Leadership Academy to enhance the City's capacity for addressing climate change. Our energy practice also continues to evolve; we're developing new service models for energy utilities, such as partnering with communities on energy planning through Xcel Energy's Partners In Energy program to deliver efficiency at broader and deeper scales
In progress since 2011, Brendle Group's work to develop tools and protocols for net zero water planning are well underway. Supported by a technical advisory group with national expertise in water quantity and quality, we'll be rolling out a building scale toolkit, followed by expanding methodologies to the building portfolio, campus, and community scales.
Our planning group is hard at work to help receipients of our planning services - from regions and cities to universities and school districts - create successful platforms for implementing their plans, including developing organizational strategies for successfully moving sustainability plans forward through implementation. This includes our  recent work with Takoma Park, Maryland to implement their Sustainable Energy Action Plan.
Denver Office Puts Down Roots
Focus on Sustainable Buildings is Serving City's Booming Development Market
In 2014, Brendle Group formalized its Denver presence with the grand opening of our office in The Alliance Center, Colorado's hub for sustainability. Since then our Denver team has been putting down roots and cultivating more relationships to foster sustainability in the Denver metro area.
While we'll be continuing to support our existing practice areas - energy, water, climate, and strategic sustainability planning - our near-term emphasis in Denver is focused on sustainable buildings. This includes helping existing building owners, managers, and tenants manage energy and resource use as well as overall sustainability efforts. It also includes working with new building architects, developers, and contractors on incorporating sustainability, from energy modeling and water efficiency planning to LEED and other sustainable design services at multiple scales -  from buildings to sites and campuses.  You can read more about our sustainable building services here.

Brendle Group Lands Grant for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
Supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, we'll be installing two electric vehicle chargers at our headquarters in Fort Collins. With momentum from the grant, Brendle Group has also joined more than 15 employers in the Northern Colorado Electric Vehicle Workplace Charging Challenge.
Progress Continues on Net Zero Water Planning Tool
With leadership from Brendle Group, the Net Zero Water Initiative continues its progress toward developing a first-of-its-kind Net Zero Water Planning Toolkit. In February 2015 the first module of the Toolkit focused on the building scale was uveiled to the Net Zero Water Consortium via webinar. Next up will be modules for site, district, and community scales, along with an official unveiling of the tool later in 2015.
All Things Sustainability in the Ski Industry: A Video Series
Watch Brendle Group President Judy Dorsey share her thoughts about all things sustainability in the ski industry in this video series, from its growing Climate Challenge initiative to priortizing initiatives and managing supply chains.
Also in 2015, Brendle Group will be providing up to $5,000 in services to a ski area through a National Ski Areas Association Sustainable Slopes grant to help assess vulnerabilities and risks from climate change. Applications are due April 30.
