Acts 9:3-6
3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” 5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

New International Version (NIV)
What is the brightest light in the world? I thought it might be the sun. Then I learned a light one billion times brighter than the surface of the Sun has now been created in a lab, making it the brightest light ever produced on Earth. The record-breaking laser beam has revealed new properties of light, and it could be used in medical equipment or to create more powerful computer chips. Impressive, but God is brighter still!

Saul was blinded by a dazzling light when God arrested him outside Damascus. The light came with a voice. The Voice called Saul by name and asked him why he was persecuting him. Saul asked who it was. Then he heard what he never expected to hear, “I am Jesus.” Saul must have wondered how he could have been so wrong.

C. S. Lewis once called himself, “the most dejected, reluctant convert in all of England.” Like Saul before him, Lewis was apprehended by loving light. Once he believed, he never looked back. Think of the person in your family or connections who is least likely to believe. I have a few in mind. Now imagine that God converts them by grace. What might they do if they entered the kingdom?

Saul and C. S. Lewis remind us of what God can do with a former enemy who has been loved to life. God can turn an atheist into an evangelist or a skeptic into a missionary. This means there is hope. Even those in deepest darkness may see the light. Today if we see his light or hear his voice, let us not harden our hearts.

Pray with me:
Father, thank you for pursuing us until you caught us. Let us live in the radiant light of your love today. Give us grace to know your voice. When we hear you call, we will run to you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
