About what do we boast? My dad told me the morning temperature in Pueblo, Colorado was in the 40’s. He canceled a four-wheeler trip because of snow in the mountains. Snow in September sounds splendid! Amen? I smiled and said, “Now you are bragging, dad.” Compared to our temperatures in the mid to high 70’s each morning, our friends in Colorado have a reason to brag.
We should not boast, on the other hand, about our wisdom, strength or riches. All three of these categories tempt us to brag. Who is the smartest? Who is the strongest? Who is the richest? As Andy Stanley says, it is not enough for us to be smart, strong or rich. We have to have the “er” on the end. In short we aspire to be smart-er, strong-er or rich-er.
About what should we boast? God has given us understanding to know him as Lord. Our Lord delights in his own kindness, justice and righteousness. So should we. God has been kind to us. He is always just and righteous. It is never wrong to boast in the attributes of our great God. He made the mountains and causes autumn to finally fall, even in Texas. Not only does he know us, but he wants us to know him. Do we? Know him? He is kind, just and righteous. Brag about him to someone today!
