1 Peter 5:10
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
New International Version (NIV)
One of my favorite parts of the morning worship service is the benediction.  I say this not because it is the end of the service.  A benediction is a good word.  It gives me one last chance to bless God and ask him to bless his people.  Mostly, I like to use scripture passages which are benedictions or doxologies.    This verse is a really good one!

What a powerful promise Peter makes.   Notice what he teaches us about God.  God is the God of all grace.  God shows unmerited favor to his people.  He calls us to his eternal glory in Christ.  Our gracious, glorious God knows we are suffering.   He even allows it for a little while.  In the previous verse, we learn that God’s people are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  So what is the promise?  God himself will restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

God is personally involved in alleviating our suffering.  He is achieving a purpose in our struggles.  Only God can restore us.  He will!  Then the doxology comes:  To him be the power for ever and ever.  In view of his desire to restore us, we are grateful to acknowledge that he is not only willing but able to strengthen us.  Let us live in that strength today.

 Pray with me:
God of grace and God of glory, on your people pour your power!  Restore.  Make us strong, firm and steadfast we pray.  In the matchless power of our God we pray.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
