Senior Story: Katelyn Reflects on Her Growth

Meet Katelyn, a senior at UCCS getting ready to graduate with her Comprehensive Higher Education Certificate in Event Planning!
Katelyn grew up in Michigan, but she decided to attend college out of state. She says it has been hard to be far away from her family, but her relationships with her friends and her frequent phone calls with her mom help ease her homesickness.
While attending the OIS program, Katelyn has grown in independence and has developed many new friendships. As she looks ahead to graduation, she is very excited to reach this milestone and begin planning life after college. Katelyn's post-graduation goals include staying in Colorado and working as a professional event planner - and we are confident that she can do it! Check out her video to hear directly from Katelyn about her college experience.

Disability Employment Awareness Month

Social Media Banner with photos and arrows on the left side. The right side reads:
The U.S. Department of Labor celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) every October! This year, we are so excited to recognize all the valuable contributions our students and graduates make in their workplaces.
At least 72% of graduates from Colorado's inclusive higher education programs are currently employed in a meaningful vocational setting! These graduates are earning awards and accolades, working towards promotions, and experiencing true workplace inclusion. Additionally, so many of our current students are working in internships or job settings while going to school! We are so proud of their dedication and tenacity.

National Inclusive Higher Education Conference

3 UCCS graduates pose for a photo after giving a keynote speech.
October 24-26 was the national State of the Art (SOTA) Conference, which brought together over 400 stakeholders of inclusive higher education across the country! This year, SOTA was held in Colorado Springs. We were incredibly touched by the words of Brianna Kimble, Nick Wrape, and Ben Kim, 3 UCCS graduates (pictured) who delivered Wednesday's keynote address. We are also so proud of the many inclusive higher education students and graduates from Colorado who spoke at the student-facing portion of the conference, the Student Leadership Conference (SLC)!
Colorado was well-represented in presentations! Students, graduates, staff, and parents from UCCS, ACC, and IN! were chosen from a competitive pool to be presenters! In total, 6 staff, 9 students/graduates from Colorado's IHE programs, and 4 parents of graduates presented at this year's conference! We were honored to take the national stage to share all of the amazing work happening in Colorado. Further, we are inspired by the willingness of our students, graduates, and parents to speak about the impact of inclusive higher education in their lives. We are grateful for their continued advocacy of IHE in Colorado and across the United States, and we can't wait to see the bright futures of these trailblazers!
