Walsh University Awarded Choose Ohio First Funding to Advance STEM Careers |
Walsh University has been awarded $645,158 in funding through the State of Ohio’s Choose Ohio First (COF) program, a statewide initiative designed to expand opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This funding will empower Walsh to prepare students for high-demand careers and strengthen Ohio’s workforce by fostering innovation and driving economic growth.
The Choose Ohio First program plays a critical role in addressing Ohio’s workforce challenges by supporting scholarships and hands-on learning opportunities such as internships, co-ops, and research projects. Walsh University’s Online Nurse Practitioner Programs have been ranked #2 in Ohio for 2025 by Nurse Practitioner Online. This achievement reflects Walsh’s proactive response to the growing demand for highly trained nurse practitioners, who are essential to addressing critical healthcare shortages, particularly in underserved areas. Through the Gary and Linda Byers School of Nursing, Walsh is equipping the next generation of advanced practice nurses with the expertise, compassion, and leadership needed to transform patient care. A huge congratulations to Dominic O’Conner, Nick Novak, Katie Cozy, and Bryn Elliot who will be representing Walsh University to compete in the Midwest’s largest pickleball tournament, Pickle in the Land, Dec. 13–15 at the Huntington Convention Center in Cleveland! Christmas Holiday Lunch for students. Enjoy the Christmas ambiance with lunch, photos with Santa, music, raffles, and more! Lunch will be in the Schervish Dining Hall from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
December 6, 7: Christmas Celebration “Lessons and Carols”

Walsh University’s Chorale, directed by Dr. Britt Cooper, invites the community to its 15th Annual Ceremony of Lessons and Carols, and a Holy Child Shall Lead Them. This cherished Christmas tradition will take place on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel. The performances will feature the Walsh University Chorale and Handbell Choir.

Assist the North Canton Public Library with directing traffic for events leading up to the tree lighting ceremony at the North Canton Winterfest and cleanup afterward. The hours are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

A North Canton tradition! Enjoy this free event featuring pictures with Santa, horse-drawn wagon rides, and live music inside the beautifully decorated museum from 1 to 4 p.m.
December 8: Breakfast and Brunch with Santa

This Sunday, Walsh University will host its annual Breakfast and Brunch with Santa, a festive tradition filled with holiday cheer! Each session begins with Holy Mass, followed by a delicious breakfast and brunch with Santa himself. Guests will enjoy a live Nativity, get creative with cookie decorating, warm up with hot cocoa, and make their own reindeer craft. This event is a true community effort, and we are grateful to all the faculty, staff and student volunteers who are coming together to make it special. See you there!

On Nov. 26, Dr. Jennifer Clevinger, Professor of Biology, was sworn in by Judge Dixie Park as a new Commissioner of the Stark County Park District Board. Her husband, Dr. Curtis Clevinger held the Bible for the ceremony. Also present were Stark Parks Executive Director Daniel Moeglin and Deputy Director Derek Gordon.
