We are excited to announce the publication of our 2022-2023 Annual Report, which takes a slightly different format than years past. With so many exciting announcements and achievements happening around campus, we decided to use the report as an opportunity to celebrate our year-in-review, including spotlights on Longleaf Center and our ongoing DEIJB commitments; highlights across Preschool environmental education, Lower School place-based learning, and Middle School service-learning; a commemoration of the 2023 graduating class and interview with 2016 alumna Emma Brinkley; and, of course, recognition of each and every donor who uplifted the mission of our school. Our work here would simply not be possible without your support and for that we are immensely grateful. Click on the image or link above to read the report in full, and consider making a donation to this year's annual fund by clicking the button below. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for our students and our community where everyone can learn, grow, and belong.

September Parent Association Meeting |
Wednesday's Parent Association meeting was a tremendous success with more than 40 people in attendance! Co-Clerks Sarah McIntosh & Chelsea Bradshaw led the group in a lively discussion of the many roles of the PA, volunteer opportunities, and event planning. We also found ways to extend our school communications for farther reach, including frequent event reminders (especially for our athletics teams!). If you haven't had the chance yet, be sure to check out the PA page on our website which includes contact information, meeting minutes, family handbook, and more. Stay tuned for October's virtual meeting Zoom link, taking place on Wednesday, 10/04, from 7:15-8PM.

We Need Your Help! Prospective Family October Open Houses |
Our upcoming Open Houses are just around the corner, and we can't wait to invite prospective families to campus to experience the warmth and excellence that defines an FSW education. YOU—our current school community—are our very best advocates, and we’d like your help in promoting these events.
You know better than anyone what makes our institution truly special. Your unwavering support, unrivaled enthusiasm, and personal experiences are invaluable in showcasing what sets us apart. Please save the dates and share this information with your friends, neighbors, and colleagues who are searching for a vibrant and vigorous learning environment. Your endorsement carries significant weight and helps guide prospective families to discover our incredible school.
For any questions or for further information about the Open Houses, please reach out to Director of Admissions, David Hoolahan.

Celebrate with Friends at the Cape Fear Latinos Festival |
Today is the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, and though Latinx cultures and the Spanish language are celebrated all year long in Spanish class, this month allows us opportunities to better connect with celebrations and organizations in the community.
The annual Cape Fear Latinos Festival is taking place on Saturday, September 23rd from 2-8PM at Live Oak Bank Pavilion. We encourage all families to attend this event as a way to experience the array of Latinx cultures through food, music, dancing, and more!
Additionally, we will have a booth at the event and we are hoping to have Middle School student ambassadors work alongside our faculty in one-hour shifts. Our theme will be the monarch butterfly's migration to Mexico which will include activities with bilingual booklets, life cycle crafts, and a collaborative, migration map. We can't wait to see you there!

Rosh Hashanah, one of the most important holidays for Jewish people around the world, is here! The two-day celebration marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year and is filled with many special commemorations like eating apples and honey together to represent a sweet new year, or baking challah, a braided bread, in a round loaf to represent the cycle of a year. "For Rosh Hashanah, in particular, there's just a lot of emphasis on sweetness so that you are stepping into the year with good tastes and good feelings, and with this idea that you want to have a sweet and bountiful year ahead," says Rabbi Danielle Leshaw. To our many wonderful Jewish families, Shanah Tovah!

"Susan’s values of commitment to the school for so many years, consistency in her calm presence for the children and parents, integrity in her love for the children, and big warm hugs make our family feel supported, loved, and appreciated. She always has a jolly big laugh to share and her warmth and genuine heart provide a safe feeling of connection every time we are on campus. In a culture where inter-generational connections have become increasingly more limited, we love seeing Susan’s decade long connections to the children across all of the buildings, her ease with nervous new parents, and her wisdom among her peers. Our family is grateful for her living example of the SPICES values and how she inspires us every day through her love of the community."
- Kristin Cooper-Gulak
