Lynn Hulbert,
BOMA San Diego President
President's Message

You won’t want to miss this month’s Membership Meeting and pre-meeting Seminar at the Double Tree at Hazard Center on October 11. The seminar will give a detailed overview and analysis of the recent Emergency Preparedness Active Shooter event and the luncheon will be an informative, interactive panel discussion.
I’d like to use this space to sincerely thank each and every one of our sponsors. I can’t express the importance of your loyalty and commitment to BOMA San Diego, I hope I don’t sound like a broken record (does anyone even know what a record is these days?) but without your support we wouldn’t be the successful organization that we are today.
September concluded our 40% off Summer Membership Campaign and I am pleased to report that we have gained 16 new member faces. I look forward to meeting each one of you.
The Special Events Committee is working full speed ahead with planning the Gala which will be held at The Prado in Balboa Park on November 19th. I love that we combine recognition of all our wonderful volunteers with a great party.  Don’t forget to register.

Humble Beginnings: A Property Manager's Road to Success
A 14 year old girl walks into her 2nd period class and immediately she sees a large red wood conference table at the center of her classroom. It looks familiar, as she turns to the front of the class she sees a large desk with a high back chair that her teacher is currently sitting in. “Mr. Williams, looks like we have some new furniture, were these items donated?”, the girl asks. Mr. Williams responds, “Yes.” As he responds, the girl begins to smile, “Mr. Williams, were they donated by a healthcare organization”? Mr. Williams responds, “How did you know that?” The girl responds while smiling, “Well, my mom is a property manager for a large healthcare organization.

Get Back to Business Faster with Disaster Planning Tips and Tools
Preparation is key to getting your business back on track after a disaster. Whether the disruption is due to natural causes, such as a wildfire or earthquake, or other hazards, an emergency response plan can help your business recover faster and limit losses.
Start with an overview of the basics in this four-minute video, “Emergency Preparedness for Businesses,” at sdge.com/business/emergencyFor example, you should develop a written plan, train staff, practice emergency procedures, stock emergency supplies, maintain defensible space, back up and store information securely off site, and periodically test equipment such as electric generators and smoke detectors.
Visit ready.gov/business for tools you can use to develop or improve a disaster preparedness program for your business. The business continuity planning software includes an automated disaster recovery plan tool.
