Executive Director's November Message

Open Enrollment has ended, and we are thankful we get to shift our focus to help our members enhance their health and well-being. The Movember movement raises awareness for men’s health issues such as mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. If you see more men with mustaches in November, they are showing solidarity and support for men’s health by growing a “Mo”. We all play a role in creating healthier habits throughout our family. Show support by encouraging the men in your life to talk to their doctors, eat and exercise healthfully, and get annual physicals and wellness exams. Everyone can tackle important conversations about men’s mental health with support from this great online resource.

Board (HSB) Meeting

The November Health Service Board (HSB) Regular Board Meeting will be on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 1 p.m.

Movember exists to help men live happier, healthier, and longer lives. It tackles topics such as mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Don't Let COVID Ruin Your Holiday Plans, Get the Booster

There's a new booster shot to protect you and your loved ones from the new variant of COVID. Many hospitals across the Bay Area are requiring masks again, because respiratory viruses, including COVID are on the rise. Why risk getting sick during the holidays? Get your flu shot and the COVID booster shot.

Look for your Health Benefits Confirmation Statement in December

In early December, SFHSS will mail you an Open Enrollment Confirmation Statement that will include your benefit elections for you and your dependents for the 2024 Plan Year.

Please review the statement to confirm your benefits are correct.

Please note: SFHSS will only be able to correct administrative errors.

Elections made during Open Enrollment in October cannot be changed unless the member experiences an IRS qualifying event.

If you did not submit any elections during Open Enrollment, your 2023 elections will carry over to 2024, with the exception of Flexible Spending Account contributions, which will end on December 31, 2023.

Did you know you can get most of your eligibility questions answered on sfhss.org?

If you want to confirm your enrollment has been processed, please visit the Employee Portal and select My Benefits from the left-hand navigation bar to view your current enrollment. Please note: It may take up to 30-days for the system to reflect your new enrollment request.

If you received a delinquency notice and would like to make a payment, please use the City and County of San Francisco’s Payment Portal to bring your account up-to-date.

You can also schedule a consultation with a health plan expert during their office hours just for SFHSS members.

If you still prefer to call and cannot get through, please leave just one (1) voicemail as multiple voicemails will delay a response back to you.

If you need to submit supporting documents to SFHSS such as Medicare enrollment, birth certificate(s), marriage certificate, or domestic partner certificate or declaration, you can fax a copy to (628) 652-4701.

You can also mail or drop-off a copy at our drop box located at 1145 Market Street, 3rd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103.

Our drop-box is accessible Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Please do not send us original documents as they will not be returned to you.
