How are your relationships going? So many books have been written on the subject. Am I alone in thinking that the books miss the mark. Where do we learn the right way to relate to each other so that we find joy and peace with others?
Paul writes to a divided church in Philippi and offers them a template for relationships in Jesus Christ. Think like Jesus thought about relationships. So how did Jesus think? Jesus knew who he was but did not claim his rights. For example, he left heaven and became human while he was still God. But he did not use his equality with God for his own advantage. In very nature God, he became in very nature a servant, taking on human likeness.
Have you ever been demoted? Like Pluto which was a planet for many years and then demoted to an asteroid? Max Lucado asked, “How did Pluto feel about that?” But Jesus took voluntary demotions in order to save the world. When you and I willingly serve others, our relationships will get better. It is counterintuitive, I know. It is also true!
