Week of December 1, 2014
Welcome back!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday!
(Hard to believe it is already December...)
 Important Announcements:
Join Us for the Next "Meetings With Michael" Conversations
Mr. Turner invites families to join him for an exchange of ideas on the topic of "Outside the Classroom." The meetings will explore the school’s co-curricular program as well as students' activities beyond St. Michael’s.
From athletics, to arts, to service, and more – children often seem busier than adults. These conversations will explore the benefits and costs of being actively engaged on- and off-campus. If you’re planning to attend, please consider the following questions:
1. How do adults invest and manage student's time?
2. How do students invest and manage their own time?
3. What is or might be an “awesome” element in St. Michael’s co-curricular program?
The opportunity to chat will be offered three times over two days as follows:
  • Tuesday, December 9 at 2 p.m. AND 7 p.m., on the Bon Air campus, and
  • Wednesday, December 10 at 8:15 a.m., on the Singleton campus.
Thank you to the SMPA for hosting this program. We hope you can be a part of the discussion!
Congrats to All of Our Lego Robotics Teams! Our Lego robotics teams had an exciting past two weeks!  All of our teams did us proud at the two First Lego League regional competitions. One of our fifth grade teams placed 1st for their Research Project on "Peer to Peer Learning with the Use of Technology." One of our Our Middle School teams won FIRST place in Robot Performance AND the overall Championship Award! They will be heading to the state championship, held at James Madison University, on December 6 and 7. Best wishes for continued success! Go Dragons!

Lower School Holiday Community Outreach: The Lower School will be participating in an outreach project to help the Children's Hospital of Richmond, The Virginia Home and Ronald McDonald House during the Christmas season. Our students will learn about the wonderful missions of each of these organizations, make Christmas cards in art class for the patients and residents, and collect needed toiletry and personal care items for these organizations.  Click here for more information and a list of needed items. Please bring these items to school by December 10th. Thank you!
Middle School Holiday Community Outreach: Our Middle Schoolers will be selling Candy Cane's for $1.00 to benefit Heifer International. Heifer International is a charity organization working to end hunger and poverty around the world by providing livestock and training to struggling communities.

St. Michael's In the NewsHave you seen the wonderful article on St. Michael's in the December issue of Richmond Magazine? Check it out on pages 112-116. We will post a digital link once it is available online.

Time to Order Lunch: Lunch orders are due in by Tuesday, December 2. Here are the links to the Middle School form and the Lower School form.

Santa Is Coming! St. Michael's Church cordially invites our families to bring their little ones to meet Santa on Saturday, December 6 from 1-3 p.m. Santa asks that you bring non-perishable foods to donate to the Food Pantry. The cost is $5.00 per child or $10.00 per family to benefit the Childrens' Youth Programs at St. Michael's. Please contact the church for more information and be sure to bring your camera!

At our Thanksgiving Chapel services this past week, we gave thanks for all of our many blessings. As Harvest Helpers, each of our Lower School students brought a food donation to the alter. Our fifth graders then helped sort the offerings and stocked shelves at the St. Michael's Church Food Bank.
Our Middle School contributed 596 pounds of food to the non-profit FeedMore. We are pleased to play a role in the fight against hunger in our community.
