This weekend is extra long in honor of Labor Day, a time to reflect on the achievements and sacrifices that all American workers have made in contribution to our society-- one that is in constant motion. Campus will be closed tomorrow, Monday September 7th, giving our students, faculty, and staff a well deserved, extra moment of respite.

Hopefully each of you has an opportunity to rest a little longer, or do something spectacular this weekend. Never forget how hard you work and that we all deserve more time to just be human! 

Mud-kitchen Magic! 
Do you remember being a kid and feeling that pure joy after concocting some mystery creation with leaves, sticks, mud, whatever you could get your hands on? Those moments of simplicity can become few and far between in adulthood. 

I wonder what would happen to our world if we all saw the beauty in the simple things again . . .

This week, I have been thinking about the extraordinary power of determination, and the equally important role that a caring community plays in helping a child’s dreams become possible.

A deeply inspiring story that captured attention around the world involves Ragini, a seven-year-old girl from Ballia, India. After losing the use of one of her legs in an accident as an infant, Ragini refused to allow that challenge to stand between her and an education. Each day, she reportedly traveled approximately 400 meters to school by hopping on one leg, driven by a determination simply to be in her classroom and continue learning.

This short survey will help shape a class schedule that accommodates the interests, ages, and availability of as many participating families as possible.

Classes begin the week of September 29th & meet weekly through December 16th.

Friday mornings are for… Committees! All middle school students have joined a student-led, teacher-facilitated committee that meets during Friday morning advisory. These groups give students a chance to share ideas, take on leadership roles, and contribute to our school community..

Green Team (Rob): Lead recycling, composting, and environmental education

School Stewardship & Caretaking (Skip): Plan campus improvements and care for shared student spaces, gardens, and play areas.

School Spirit (Amy): Lead all school Monday Announcements, update calendars and displays, and help plan and promote school events.

Community Culture Club (Cameron): Build community through shared activities and explore cultural traditions and events locally and globally.

Newsies (Jesse): Share middle school happenings and write a weekly Student Voice newsletter article

Even our littlest learners are busy, busy, busy! This week in Stepping Stones, our Friends have been studying the farm, the sounds we hear from farm animals, and making barn and pig art! 

They also welcomed Juli, an alumni grandmother, back to the classroom as a volunteer. 

After hearing about some conflicts from families, we'd like to shift next week's 4th and 5th Grade Curriculum Night to 3:15pm - 4:15pm on Thursday, September 10th. We are hoping this will line up with dismissal pick up for you, and that your child can have the provided supervised play at CARE that afternoon as an option. As a bonus, our UNCW Women's Basketball Team helpers will be there at that time, ready to lead kids in a variety of games.

If you are unable to attend, we'll be sure to send any presentation documents or handouts home that evening.
