Collaborative Research Luncheon #1: Digital Humanities
Thursday, September 5, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Kansas Union, Malott Room
Register by Friday, August 30
|
Collaborative Research Luncheons welcome faculty, across all ranks, from the curious to the novice to the expert. By bringing together individuals with diverse research experience often dispersed across disciplines, schools, and positions, our aim is to expand professional networks and open new pathways to excellence in research that transcend the traditional silos of academic thought, foster interdisciplinary connection and jump-start novel collaborations.
Scholars from across campus will gather to eat, network, and think critically about research on diverse and relevant topics. While there is no formal program, this is a semi-structured opportunity to engage with colleagues across topics of common interest.

Navigating the Winds of Change: Examining Energy Transition Regulations in KS
Friday, Sept. 6, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Watson Library, 3 West Reading Room
Few people outwardly oppose wind and solar developments in principle. But, the actuality of planning, permitting, and bringing a wind or solar generating facility often generates controversy, sometimes pitting long-term allies against each other.
This presentation shares ongoing work examining the transition to just and green energy future. We will discuss creation of a new public-facing Kansas Energy Transition Atlas, which uses GIS to consolidate and map the wind regulations for all 105 Kansas counties. We also will discuss our analysis of the patterns of county regulations, which range from ordinances that ban wind developments to ordinances that seek to incentivize wind developments. Details and registration.
Presenters:
Ward Lyles, Associate Professor, School of Public Affairs & Administration | Director, Center for Compassionate & Sustainable Communities
Ian Njuguna, Graduate Student & Research Assistant, Urban Planning
Red Hot Research: Pedagogy & Purpose
