The effects UCD can have on non-affected siblings
We are excited to introduce our new sibling support page on our website. The goal of this page is to offer support to the siblings of those with urea cycle disorders, whether children or adults.Â
The effects that urea cycle disorders can have on non-affected siblings can be life altering. Siblings can often have difficulties in many ways. They may have difficulties dealing with the fact that their sibling(s) is/are ill and they are not. They may feel left out when the parents' focus is on the UCD child and not on them. They may not understand what is happening to their sibling and be worried about them.
While it's common to worry less about a healthy child than an unhealthy one, this can also cause them to feel all sorts of emotions. That is why we have created this new area of our website and a new blog post to support UCD siblings.Â
