Hi friends,
This is the first edition of a quarterly newsletter that we will send out to keep you in the loop on program updates, technical assistance and funding opportunities, and upcoming events. Each edition will also highlight a program partner and participant and include food waste tips and recipes. We are so excited to continue to collaborate with people throughout Tennessee to combat food waste and food insecurity in our state!
Thanks,

Topics included source reduction, food recovery, food diversion, and policy and technological strategies to reduce food waste. We were joined by speakers from Urban Green Lab, Clean Memphis, University of Arkansas, Society of St. Andrew, Food Donation Connection, Postmates, TDEC, The Compost Fairy, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic, and ReFED.

During the 111th General Assembly food donor liability protections were expanded. Under the new law a food donor of apparently wholesome food, including items bearing a past best-by date, will not be held liable for any suits that arise from the conditions of the food, unless in the case of gross negligence, recklessness, or intentional conduct. Donors can also donate food directly to an individual.
Visit www.getfoodsmarttn.com for more information and to learn how food donation can reduce food waste.
