Isaiah 43:19
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland.

New International Version (NIV)
What’s new with you?  Isaiah saw the new work that God would do in the future as exiles returned home from captivity.  In Genesis 4 we see the devastation in the lives of the first family.  One generation after creation Adam and Eve face the loss of both of their sons, one to death and the other to exile.  Their hearts are broken by the loss of life and love.  When all seems lost, God begins again, giving them a son named Seth.  Seth and his wife have a son named Enosh.  People begin to call on the name of the Lord.  Hope is reborn.
As the calendar turns to this new year, it is good to leave some things behind.  As we clean the closets of our souls, what are we throwing away?  To what sin do we stubbornly cling, vainly hoping a new coat of paint will make it ok?  Put off the old says Paul to the Ephesians (4:22-23).  Put on the new.  Dress each day in the full armor of God.   The God who made us can remake us.  Hope it is reborn.  Happy New Year!  Happy new you!
Pray with me:
Father, we call upon the name of the Lord and ask you not only to clean out the cobwebs in our souls, but to kill the spider.  Remove old patterns and practices of sin from our hearts.  Restore the joy of our salvation.  Show us how we can join you in your work of making all things new today.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.
Let’s focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he leads us.
He will not fail.  Neither will we!
Joyfully,
Duane
