“Don’t leave home without it!”

Ephesians 6:14-15
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
New International Version (NIV)
“Don’t leave home without it!”  Remember that line in a credit card commercial.  What things are essential for us to live the Christian life?  Paul starts with truth.  Truth is the belt which holds all things together.  I remember an earlier generation of students who never wore belts.  Just so, truth has been jettisoned in our generation.  For the post-modern thinker, truth is relative. You have your truth and I have mine.  Christianity posits an absolute and personal truth.  Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  Don’t leave home without truth today.
Walking through museums in Europe I was taken by the impressive armor.  Soldiers were smaller in many cases, but they were well-protected with gleaming, fitted breastplates.  The breastplate protected the vital organs and thus saved the lives of the soldiers.  The Christian wears the breastplate of righteousness.  This is not our own best efforts to do better, but the perfect righteousness of Christ, imputed to us.  Our hearts are protected because we have been made right with God through Christ.  2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made him who knew no sin to become sin for us so that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”  Don’t leave home without righteousness today.
What difference do shoes make?  Anyone who has ever worn the wrong pair for an extended time knows this is the wrong question.  Christians are fitted with gospel shoes.  We bring good news everywhere we go.  The Christian message is not a message of anger or vitriol, but a proffer of peace to all who will receive it.  We come in peace so that the world will not be broken into pieces.   Let your feet be beautiful today, bearing the best news of all.  We were worse off than we thought, but more loved than we ever imagined.
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you today for offering us your truth, righteousness and peace.    Make us ready for the challenges of this day.  Remind us that your perfect provision for us will always be enough.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones

As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
