When all of life caves in, what then? Is God there? Does God care? Moses might have wondered as he wandered through the wilderness. Does God care about his own people who are enslaved in Egypt? We, too, may wonder as we face life struggles, “Does God care about his people? Does God care about me?”
Moses’ pseudo-self crumbled on the day his murder of the Egyptian was revealed. He left his past, assuming a new identity, taking up a new place of residence, hoping to hide from his failure and shame. What did the sheep care about his sin? When he least expected it, God found Moses.
As God spoke to bare-footed Moses from a burning bush, he revealed himself as the God who hears. He sent Moses back to Egypt to deliver the Israelites.
Who is our God? Our Shepherd cares so much that he comes down to the rescue of his people. The sending God who sent Moses and sent Jesus also sends us into the world to accomplish his purpose today. Richard Halverson put it this way, “You go nowhere by accident. Wherever you go, God is sending you there. Wherever you are, God has put you there. He has a purpose in your being there. Christ, who indwells in you, has something He wants to do through you, wherever you are. Believe this, and go in His grace, and love and power.”
