Welcome to a New Year with the Medical Library

Welcome back! We're finally getting snow in Michigan, which means it's time to talk Medical Library news. We have some things to help you with your New Year, but unfortunately you'll have to do those resolutions on your own (though feel free to contact us if you need a workout buddy or some recipe tips).
This month's newletter features:

Library Hours and Housekeeping

Library Building Hours
Library hours will return to form in February and remain so throughout the month.
  • Monday - Thursday: 7:30a - 11:00p
  • Friday: 7:30a - 8:00p
  • Saturday - Sunday: 10:00a - 6:00p
Zotero Citation Manager
The University Libraries will be dropping support for RefWorks at the end of the Winter 2023 semester. Unfortunately, RefWorks was deemed no longer financially solvent, and so the library has opted to instead endorse Zotero, which is a robust and free piece of citation management software that should prove an easy transition. Keep on the lookout for a Subject Guide about using Zotero.
Little Free Library
Kresge Library and the University Libraries Sustainability Committee have created a Little Free Library, located on the second floor of the building near the puzzles and casual reading section. If you're unfamiliar with Little Free Libraries, they are small boxes that people will put up outside their homes, near a sidewalk for instance, where people can take or leave books. For more information, check out the LFL guidelines

Authors at Oakland 2023 - A Celebration of the Journal Article

Kresge Library will be hosting its annual Authors at Oakland celebration on the Ides of March (March 15th for you non-Shakespearens), and this year will feature journal articles from all Oakland University faculty, including our very large body of clinical faculty at OUWB. The event is catered and will feature two forthcoming speakers presenting on their submitted journal article.
If you're a faculty member interested in submitting an article for the event, please fill out this form, or you can send your citation to davidstewart@oakland.edu.

July - September Publication Report

The Medical Library has completed the July - September 2022 Publication List, featuring citations from OUWB clinical faculty and OUWB medical students for the months of July, August, and September. There are 183 publications in this quarter's list, including 17 by FMS faculty and 59 by OUWB students. The October - December List, as well as the 2022 Yearly List, will be out in the very near future.
As always, if we miss one of your publications, please let us know at either of the email addresses listed in the report. We always welcome self-submission as well!  If you send us your citation, it is guaranteed to be in the report.

NLM Traveling Exhibit

The Medical Library is currently hosting an exhibit from the National Library of Medicine. Around twice a year, we receive a series of display stands featuring a topic relating to the medical field and display it in the lobby of Kresge Library. You'll see it immediately as you walk in through the front doors. This period's display is titled, "This Lead is Killing Us," and is a harrowing history of the lead in pipes and water that continues to plague some Michigan residents to this day.
A new addition to the display process this year is that we will be moving it over to O'Dowd Hall for part of the exhbibt time. From January 17th to February 3rd we will showcase at Kresge Library, and from February 6th to the 24th you will find it outside the two main lecture classrooms at O'Dowd Hall.
Information about this exhibit, as well as past displays, can be found in the Medical Library's new NLM Traveling Exhibit guide.
