Oregon Parks Forever is excited to present an exclusive Earth Day virtual screening of the award-winning documentary, Out There: A National Parks Story on April 22nd from 7:00 to 9:00 pm PDT. Join us for an unforgettable evening as we celebrate “America’s best idea” – our National Parks – with a special, virtual screening of the award-winning documentary, Out There: A National Parks Story. (Running time is 75 minutes).  A young filmmaker sets out on a 10,000-mile exploration of the national parks with his childhood best friend during the centennial year of the formation of the National Park Service, recording stories of its workers.

Last year, we toured many Oregon cities with this film to sold-out audiences. However, many of you expressed disappointment that we were not able to see it in your local theater. So we are bringing the film back to your home screen for one night only. This program will be broadcast live, April 22nd at 7:00 to 9:00 pm PDT.

Hold a watch party and gather together with your family and friends around the home screen, bring the popcorn, and drinks because as many people who can crowd around a TV can watch for one price. As part of our WE CARE FOR PARKS efforts to restore and maintain our beautiful natural places, we are working with Trailkeepers of Oregon (TKO). Each year, Trailkeepers of Oregon hosts hundreds of trail parties around the state. These are volunteer stewardship events, led by friendly, expert crew leaders, with the goals of being safe, having fun, and caring for beloved hiking trails. No prior experience is required – trail parties feature a wide range of backgrounds, abilities, and interests.

Trail service can range from minor maintenance, like brushing back vegetation, to trail realignments and new trail construction. Here are some highlights that need your attention this spring.

Salmon Falls County Park Trail Party – Willamette Valley
April 24 at 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
This trail party will focus on continuing work to restore safe access to Salmon Falls County Park. We will continue work on the installation of an 80-foot run of box steps and 1500 feet of new natural surface trail. More info and register here.

Trail Ambassadors Season Kick-Off Party
April 25 at 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm
TKO kicks off the Trail Ambassador season and celebrates the volunteers who help make Oregon’s trails more welcoming, safe, and cared for. Ambassadors are often the first friendly faces hikers meet on the trail—sharing knowledge, promoting stewardship, and helping people connect more deeply with the landscapes we all love. This free gathering is a chance to reconnect with fellow Trail and Wilderness Ambassadors, welcome new volunteers, meet Land Managers, share stories from the trail, and look ahead to the season ahead. Together, we’ll celebrate the impact of this community and the important role each of you plays in stewarding our public lands. Food will be provided. More info and register here.

Eagle Fern County Park–PDX (trail rehabilitation)
April 30 at 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
Rehabilitation on a lightly used trail at Eagle Fern Park in Clackamas County. This trail is across the road from the main body of the park, and has been very lightly used over the years, and poorly maintained. There are several switchbacks that need to be extended to decrease grade on the trail, and much tread reheabilitation needs to be done. There are several logs on the trail that need to be cut and removed. Register here.

RUN, WALK, OR ROLL FOR THE TREES HAPPY LITTLE 5K

                               A 2025 team joined R4T 5K and helped restore 50 happy little trees

One of our favorite events, Run for the Trees, encompasses Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 24). A big tree-filled thank you all who have registered. In Oregon, we have 1,345 signed up. We hope you enjoy the day with your friends. And remember to send us your photos. Our friends at Capitol Subaru will also be making a donation to our tree restoration effort for every car sold during this time. You can still donate to plant more trees in fire-devastated forests.
