Hay Market Report - August 9, 2021

Widespread rain in Wisconsin has eased some drought concerns in areas of the state. Dairy quality hay continues to be in demand. The market was steady this past week with limited offerings. Prices are steady for dairy quality hay. Lower quality or higher moisture hay is being discounted. The next Hay Market Demand and Price Report for the Upper Midwest will be posted by Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

Seasonal Grain Price Patterns

Grain price seasonality in the US generally results in low grain prices during the fall harvest period due to abundant supply. The uncertainty of early summer tends to allow plenty of price fluctuation and volatility, which usually causes grain prices to reach their annual high levels. Learn more regarding a grain marketing plan to help strategize to achieve your pricing objectives when it comes to marketing corn or beans.

SilageSnap App

The UW Madison Extension developed app "SilageSnap" is a convenient and accurate in-the-field alternative to after-the-fact processing scores. To use the app, farmers merely spread out a small sample of corn, set down a coin to calibrate for pixel size and snap a photo with their phones. Image-processing algorithms then calculate kernel-processing scores right there in the field, instead of weeks after the harvest at an external lab.     Google Play Store     Apple App Store
