Dr. Bhavya Lal, Associate Administrator at NASA Office of Technology, Policy and Strategy (OTPS) and a Trachtenberg 2012 PhD alumna, will talk about international and other policy challenges and opportunities as we endeavor to go to the Moon and then Mars. Antwan Jones
Welcome Dr. Antwan Jones to the Trachtenberg Community
The Trachtenberg School is proud to announce that Dr. Antwan Jones has joined the program faculty as a field advisor for our doctoral program in the area of race and ethnicity. Dr. Antwan Jones is a Professor of Sociology and of Africana Studies at GW with a courtesy appointment in The Milken Institute School of Public Health. Receiving degrees from Duke University and Bowling Green State University, he has published research on various health outcomes. He focuses his research on the residential and neighborhood context in which individuals live to understand health disparities among marginalized populations. He is particularly interested in child obesity and adult cardiovascular outcomes. 
Working Paper: Transparency, Participation, and Responsiveness in Hong Kong Consultative Policymaking
Trachtenberg faculty member and Co-Director of the Regulatory Studies Center Steven Balla, Trachtenberg doctoral student Huang Chen, and GW political science doctoral student Yat To Yeung are collaborating on a working paper examining "the operation of the notice and comment process in Hong Kong, by collecting and analyzing information about hundreds of consultations conducted over a 25-year period."

Kahlenberg on Diversity in College Admissions
Trachtenberg Adjunct Professor Richard Kahlenberg recently penned an article in Slate arguing that in the wake of the Supreme Court affirmative action case, universities "should already be looking at a variety of new paths to diversity that don’t rely on race in order to preserve important gains in racial diversity won over the years." Kahlenberg posits that favoring economically disadvantaged students in admissions decisions could be the key.

This Valentine's Day month, we're happy to share TSPPPA alumna Rachel Décoste's story of finding happiness and love. On her first day exploring Benin as part of her ancestry discovery journey, Rachel asked a passerby for directions.
