LMU PLAYA VISTA UPDATE As June approaches, we will occupy our new LMU Playa Vista Campus with excitement for the new opportunities it will offer the entire university community. With innovative teaching spaces as the highest design priority, our architects and builders are finishing construction of these landmark spaces. About 35,000 square feet will form the new home to SFTV graduate programs and 15,000 square feet will be university shared space. From now through opening, LMU This Week will
provide updates on progress, plans, and everything LMUPV.

Feb. 27 / Emergency Preparedness: Annual Active Shooter Drill / campuswide

The LMU community is asked to participate in an annual Active Shooter / Shelter In Place Drill today at 10:05 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. Public Safety hopes that you will dedicate a few minutes to participate in a physical shelter in place drill or a meaningful discussion regarding active shooter preparedness. Also, LMU Public Safety is partnering with the LAPD and the LAFD to host the annual Response Demonstration from 11 a.m. to noon in Roski Dining Hall in University Hall. MORE

In preparation for the 2018 Undergraduate Research Symposium, Undergraduate Research will host this workshop "How to Effectively Use Posters and PowerPoint to Share your Research with Others," featuring Melanie Hubbard, digital scholarship librarian at the William H. Hannon Library. MORE

Faculty member Tony Kmetty will present his Technology Enhanced Learning hands-on workshop "Less Admin, More Engagement" on integrating and utilizing easy-to-use tools to reclaim your time with simple apps and programs such as: Attendance app; office hours scheduling; student group member grading; and Brightspace integration. Instructional technologist Elaine Coates will guide participants as they learn how to use the discussions tool to create a collaboration area where you can post, read and reply to messages on topics, share thoughts, ask questions, share files, or students can work with their peers. Feb. 28 / Book Launch: "One Sunday in Mississippi" / UNH 3002, 7:30 p.m.

Join the book launch of "One Sunday in Mississippi," a play in one act by Linda Bannister and James E. Hurd Jr., published by Harriet Tubman Press, an imprint of TSEHAI Publishers. A cast directed by Jim Holmes of the LMU Theatre Department will perform selected scenes from the play. Special guest, Micki Dickoff, filmmaker of the documentary "Neshoba: The Price of Freedom" will also share a few words. A reception with food and drinks will follow. MORE 

March 1 / Selections from "Unteachable" / Ahmanson Auditorium, UNH 1000, 7 p.m.

ACTI Faculty Fellow Kelly Younger's full length play "Unteachable" centers on a Jesuit professor grappling with issues of academia, trigger warnings, and "words that inflict as well as instruct." The evening will feature a staged reading of selected scenes from "Unteachable" followed by Q&A and discussion. Refreshments provided. March 3 / Retreat: "Exploring the Foundations of Prayer" / Roski Dining Room, 9 a.m.

James Finley, Ph.D., will lead a one-day retreat devoted to exploring the transformative power and the challenges of learning to be faithful to daily prayer and meditation. Kristy Nabhan-Warren, professor and the V.O. and Elizabeth Kahl Figge Fellow in Catholic Studies at the University of Iowa, will explore these questions during this year’s Mary Milligan, R.S.H.M. ‘Raise the Roar’ Campaign Opens

Help LMU men’s and women’s soccer “Raise the Roar” at Sullivan Field with a new Sound System Renovation crowdfunding campaign. A new sound system will help improve the fan and player experience on Sullivan Field. Also, the men’s and women’s basketball teams are off to Nevada for the West Coast Conference Tournament, March 1-6. READ MORE
