The Things You Should Bring to the Hospital (That Seem Obvious in Hindsight, But Not in the Moment)

As part of an ongoing blog series featuring informational essays and personal stories from members of the Basser Young Leadership Council, Jourdan Cohen wrote a list of things to bring to the hospital for a mastectomy (or other preventative surgeries)—things like headphones, snacks, and plenty of distractions. Jourdan is a digital marketer and BRCA1 mutation-carrier. She is the co-Chair of the Basser Center Young Leadership Council's social media committee, and has written about her experiences with undergoing a mastectomy for ELLE.com.

Susan Domchek, MD, Discusses the MEDIOLA Trial


Basser Executive Director Susan Domchek, MD, discusses the role of specific PARP inhibitors in an ongoing breast cancer trial. The combination of olaparib (Lynparza) and durvalumab (Imfinzi) demonstrated encouraging activity in patients with HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer with germline BRCA mutations, prompting an expansion cohort within the open-label phase II MEDIOLA trial, explained Dr. Domchek, who is also the study's lead investigator.
