Ms. Washington Hits the Big Apple

Last year, Marilyn Washington, a resident at A.G. Rhodes Atlanta, was surprised with a party from TaleGate, a storytelling group that travels across the country to collect and share unique stories from older adults.

But the surprises didn’t stop there.

In talking with TaleGate founder Jack York, Ms. Washington mentioned that she would love to travel to New York. Jack made it happen.

Profiles of Positive Aging

Congratulations to three A.G. Rhodes residents who were recenetly honored and celebrated at “Profiles of Positive Aging,” an annual event held in Atlanta that celebrates and features older adults throughout the state. The event is hosted by LeadingAge Georgia, an association of Georgia-based nonprofit aging services providers like A.G. Rhodes.
Part of their nomination included a six-word memoir of advice and inspiration. We certainly agree with all of them!

"Be yourself and don't give up." - Willie Barnett, A.G. Rhodes Atlanta
"Try to be nice to everyone." - William Cody, A.G. Rhodes Cobb
"By God's hand, I'm still here." - Dena Gilbert, A.G. Rhodes Wesley Woods

A.G. Rhodes Atlanta resident, Mr. Barnett, was also treated to some surprise guests when his Generation Connect summer camp teen buddy, Austin Smith and his family, came to celebrate with him.  Thank you to everyone who came to help us celebrate these remarkable and inspirational elders!

Making a Big, Behind-the-Scenes Impact
Employee Spotlight: Jeffrey Hall
Maintenance Tech, A.G. Rhodes Atlanta
John D. Rockefeller once said, “The secret of success is to do common things uncommonly well.”

We sometimes take for granted the behind-the-scenes tasks that one may consider “common”: changing a light bulb, hanging a picture, grounds maintenance and building repairs. But when you have someone like Jeffrey Hall—a Maintenance Tech at A.G. Rhodes Atlanta—who does them uncommonly well, you recognize just how impactful the work is.

Empowering Elders Through Resident Councils

There are no better advocates for the wellbeing of our residents than the residents themselves. That’s why nursing homes like A.G. Rhodes have Resident Councils as important mechanisms for listening to and empowering residents.
A.G. Rhodes Cobb Resident Council President Owen Allen said he sees the meetings as an opportunity to build relationships.

“I listen to everyone’s concerns, help others and represent them to make them feel better and thus strengthen our community.”

Here's what our family members have to say!
"We looked at several living spaces....A.G. Rhodes [in] Marietta stood out from the others we visited. We knew almost immediately that it was the right place for our loved one. We have been so impressed with the care, concern and medical support...received. All of the team...ha[s] been excellent. They have taken great care of our family member and do it with thoroughness, concern and always with a smile! We could not be happier to have found the perfect place." ~ Sherrie M.
