Industry Relations

WELCOME

The College of Engineering and Computing was pleased to welcome several outstanding industry leading companies to campus this year for a wide variety of classroom visits, tabling events, student organization meetings, and visits with faculty. We are grateful for and deeply appreciative of the time, insights, and unique perspectives offered by these professionals. Direct interaction with individuals working in the field gives CEC students invaluable experiences, and exposes them to real-life applications of classroom work and further exemplifies the many exciting opportunities available with an engineering or computing degree.
Check out the “Spring Semester Partners” section below for a full listing of companies who generously supported CEC during the Spring semester.

AUTOMATE SHOW
Miami University College of Engineering and Computing will be at the Automate Show this week.  Come see us in booth 5149 in the FANUC Automation Education Pavilion.  We are looking forward to meeting new friends and reconnecting with familiar faces. We’re excited to share updates on the Robotics Engineering Bachelor of Science program, as well as our brand new cybersecurity degree, plus our many other engineering and computer science degrees. We look forward to seeing you!
Thank you to FANUC for supporting and hosting Miami's booth.
FALL SEMESTER EVENTS
Thank you again to all our partners. We look forward to an even more eventful calendar of events in the coming Fall semester. More details can be found below.

Senior Design Projects
All CEC students are required to complete a two-semester capstone project or Senior Design Project. Students partner in groups to research and solve a specific engineering or computing challenge.  CEC is seeking industry partners interested in presenting one of their design challenges as a Senior Design Project.  Projects typically kick-off in August and end in late April.  Hosting a Senior Design team is a fantastic opportunity to build your company's brand with students and get a fresh perspective on solutions for real-world challenges your company is actually facing.  It is also a chance to get to know the CEC students in depth and assess their potential for joining your company.  More information can be found here.

Living Learning Communities (LLC)
First year CEC students can elect to live in the Advancing Women in Engineering and Software at Miami (AWESoM) LLC or the Guys in Engineering and Computing (GiEC) LLC.  These students all live in the same dorm to help build community and support.  There are planned monthly activities in these communities that can include field trips, speakers, and other fun and informative adventures.  Companies are encouraged and invited to host any of these activities to begin building their brand with these students as they begin their academic careers.

Company Day in CEC
CEC Days for your company are scheduled at your convenience and can also be combined with hosting a student organization meeting.  Company reps can table in the CEC lobby while also conducting classroom visits to talk about the company.  Companies will often table for three to four hours anytime after 11:00am, and often bring food items to facilitate student interaction and conversation. There is no cost to table or visit classrooms.

Tours
Students have enjoyed several site tours in the Spring Semester and they are hoping to visit other area companies to see engineering and computing in-action.

Career Fairs
Miami University Career Fair: Wednesday, September 27
Miami University STEM Career Fair: Thursday, September 28
Invitations will go out in early June.

Finals Week Study Break
Monday, December 11
CEC organizes a Study Break during Finals Week to encourage the students to take a break from studying and connect with the CEC community.  Companies that sponsor the event will have their logo prominently displayed during the event and on all promotional materials leading up to the Study Break.  Companies can also supply swag and handouts for the students.  Company reps do not attend this event.

Please email Colleen Bush at bushc4@miamioh.edu for more information.

CSE INDUSTRY PANEL
The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering is hosting an Industry Panel Event.

Tuesday, October 3 at 5:00

The CSE students are recruiting professional panelists to talk about their career, offer suggestions to the students on what to do now to help in their career later, and provide guidance on career searches.

Please contact Colleen Bush at bushc4@miamioh.edu if you are interested in being a panelist or if you need more information.

CAREER EXPLORATION PANEL
All first year CEC students take CEC 111 - Imagination Ingenuity Impact.  Students in this class explore engineering and computing and engage in hands-on, interdisciplinary design that addresses societal and environmental challenges.

To help students learn more about career options in engineering and computing, CEC 111 will host Career Exploration Panels.  The goal is to have four professionals on each virtual panel.  Each panel will last about one hour.  The professionals will be virtual and do not need to give a formal presentation.  The students will ask questions to guide the conversation.

If you are interested in speaking to the students for about one hour on Monday, October 30 or Tuesday, October 31, please complete this form
CLINICAL ENGINEERING
CEC is excited to officially kick-off the Masters in Clinical Engineering. In addition to the clinical engineering courses, a regulatory affairs course will be offered each semester that can also be taken by professionals.  These courses qulify for Ohio Techcred for tuition reimbursement.
The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) recently published this article highlighting the clinical engineering program.
Please contact Colleen Bush at bushc4@miamioh.edu if you are interested in engaging with the faculty or students or if you want more information.
UPSKILLING

Are you looking for courses and workshops to educate your employees in exactly what you need them to know?

Do you want to add new courses to your current upskill course lineup?

The State of Ohio offers an easy and economical way to upskill your workforce.  Companies can apply for Ohio TechCred for their incumbent and new employees and Ohio will pay for the cost of the courses.  TechCred funding is open and can be used to fund courses starting as soon as January.
CEC currently offers advanced manufacturing, materials evaluation, regulatory affairs, and data science courses and workshops that pair with Ohio TechCred.  We are always looking for ways to share the faculty expertise with the community.  Customizing courses for your employees is a great way to quickly educate them on the topics that are relevant to their work and perfect for Ohio TechCred funding.
CEC can help and work with you to develop courses customized to your needs and Ohio TechCred can pay for those courses.
With CEC and Ohio TechCred, you can receive custom education at no charge.
Please contact Colleen Bush at bushc4@miamioh.edu if you would like to learn more and talk about potential education collaborations.
