2 Kings 7:8-9
The men who had leprosy reached the edge of the camp, entered one of the tents and ate and drank. Then they took silver, gold and clothes, and went off and hid them. They returned and entered another tent and took some things from it and hid them also. Then they said to each other, “What we’re doing is not right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, punishment will overtake us. Let’s go at once and report this to the royal palace.”
New International Version (NIV)
What do we do when God showers us with unexpected blessings?  We celebrate and share.

In Elisha’s day the King of Aram laid siege to the city of Samaria, the capital of the Northern Kingdom of Israel.  Things were getting bad.  People had no food to eat.  Elisha predicted that the next day things would get a lot better.  Nobody believed him.

Then God caused the attacking army to leave their camp and all of their possessions in it.  Four lepers went to beg for food but found the camp empty.  They found food and treasure everywhere.  What would you do?  They started to hide the things.  Then one of them said, “We are not doing good.  God has blessed us.  Shouldn’t we share?”  So they did and many people were helped.

What has God given to us?  We should give thanks for all of his good gifts by enjoying them and celebrating.  But if we keep it all to ourselves, we will never know the blessing of seeing God use us to help others.  Ask God what he wants you to do today.  By all means do that, and you will be doing well.

 Pray with me:
Father, thank you for your kindness to us.  We are beggars who have found bread.  Help us to show others the way to find the Bread of Life who is Jesus.  In his name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
