College of Business numbers reflect position of strength
The College of Business is showing a pattern of continuing growth as it works toward raising the national awareness of the quality of business education at Clemson and advancing the University’s brand. Business school enrollment increased 6.6 percent in the 2019-20 academic year over the previous year, and all undergraduate majors have exhibited consistent or growing enrollment with an overall increase in students of 26 percent since 2014.

Clemson College of Business names Carl Hollingsworth, Ph.D., associate dean
Carl Hollingsworth has been named associate dean, academic affairs, of the College of Business. Dean Wendy York said Hollingsworth will be a major contributor to business education’s role in advancing Clemson’s rise in educational excellence and relevance.

Clemson study employs AI to decipher ‘soft’ features of a home’s value
Lily Shen, assistant professor of finance, found Artificial Intelligence, or Machine Learning, would benefit the real estate industry, investors and homeowners alike. It can help determine a home's true value by accounting for “soft information,” such as heated floors or custom closets, in property advertisements that existing real estate models do not capture.

Economics Ph.D. candidate awarded prestigious NBER fellowship
When Ph.D. candidate Aspen Fryberger Underwood was looking for a compelling research topic early in her graduate studies, all it took was a chance conversation with a family member to find it. That fortuitous decision to focus on electric vehicle charging stations was a wise one as the fourth-year graduate student from Colorado was recently named the recipient of a fellowship presented annually by the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Analytics Is a Modern-Day Answer for HR
Craig Wallace, professor and chair in the Department of Management, explains how analytics has been used throughout time to improve every phase of life, but analytics used in human resources is lacking. HR analytics tend to explain what has happened, rather than predict what will happen. Implementing predictive analytics can allow for better job matches and leadership development, resulting in higher employee morale and less turnover.

The Hayek’s Excellence in Research and Outreach (HERO) Program teams presented their charitable projects to judges Reed Watson, director of the Hayek Center; Wendy York, dean of the College of Business; and Barbara Speziale, director of Creative Inquiry. Congratulations to first-place winners of $5,000, Habib Rafka, Izabella Kamieniecki and Jacob Steiniger, for their work on a Bloodless Malaria Detection Device. March 4: Pope Lecture Series addresses attacks on Western Civilization
The Spring 2020 John W. Pope Lecture Series is co-hosted by the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism and the Ayn Rand Institute.
