Human Services in the Public Square
What did the Republican candidates have to say about human needs and human services in the presidential debates? What about the Democrats? Okay, pretty much nothing except for talk about “economic inequality.” The research-based narrative developed in partnership between the National Assembly and FrameWorks Institute holds great promise for giving us language we can use with the public and policymakers that builds on values virtually all Americans support. But first, we all need to become familiar with the “new frame,” and second, we need to mobilize to make it universal across the country. In case you've missed it, here’s more information on the reframing human services narrative.
NHSA Hosts State & Local Human Service Councils
We recently convened executive leadership of state and local human service coalitions from across the country to receive an in-depth training on reframing the way we talk about human services and to discuss the need for innovation and collaboration within the sector. A shout out to the councils that participated: Catalyst Miami, Community Council of Greater Dallas, Human Services Council of New York, Illinois Partners for Human Service, Massachusetts Provider’s Council, One Voice Central Texas, Protecting Arizona’s Family Coalition, San Francisco Human Services Network, Seattle Human Services Coalition, and The Human Services Network of Colorado.

Reframing
To facilitate a more productive dialogue, use the narrative and concept of “well-being” as a way to talk about the role and value of human services in a broad sense, positing that human services promote and re-establish “well-being.”
