1 Corinthians 10:12-13
So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!  No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
New International Version (NIV)
We know what we would never do, right?  On the other hand, we may be most vulnerable to sin when we say we would never be tempted.  One prominent leader said he used to brag, “I don’t know how Satan will defeat me but it won’t be in that way?”  I suppose you know what happened next.

After Paul reminds us of our vulnerability to sin, he offers us hope.  Our temptations are not finally irresistible.  We can never truthfully say, “The Devil made me do it.”  He is not that strong.  We know God is faithful.  He knows our weaknesses and strengths.  God will always provide a way out.  Will we take it?

Our confidence is not finally in our own will power.  We trust in God.  He is committed to protecting our lives from sin.  If we seek his help, we will find it.  When we overcome temptation in his strength, let us thank him, again and again.

Pray with me:
Father, we confess we are susceptible to fail and fall.   But we trust you.  You are so faithful to empower us and to offer us a way out of temptation.  We ask you to color the way out in highlighter yellow.  When we see it, help us to take it . . . for our sake and for your greater glory we pray and live.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
