Federation 5: News you can use from across Greater Washington
We are heartbroken by the senseless and cowardly attacks in Sri Lanka on Sunday, April 21. These bombings were a heinous act of hate against the country’s minority Christian community as they observed one of their holiest days. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to all who are grieving; we reaffirm our solidarity and support for the people of Sri Lanka, our Christian friends around the world, and for all people who seek to worship freely.

We pray for peace, for an end to violent hatred, for the comfort of those who are suffering, and for the swift healing of the injured. Together, our faith communities will remain strong in the face of those who seek to tear us apart.

We will look back on our many shared accomplishments and, importantly, look ahead to the next chapter of our communal story. We are calling this event Homecoming because this moment belongs to everyone. This event is for friends old and new, and for anyone who has been a part of our community’s evolution.

The Magic of Jewish Summer Camp: Local Grown Ups Share Their Stories
The magic of summer camp has been shown to inspire a profound sense of belonging in young Jewish people, teach valuable life-lessons, and, for some, provide a path to the future. Jewish summer camp gives kids a sense that Judaism belongs to them, and helps them become independent and confident Jewish adults who value their Jewish heritage and take leadership roles in their communities. In 2018, Federation, together with local partners, provided support to more than 2,000 campers to spend the summer at an overnight or day camp. And on May 5, community members will participate in Federation’s inaugural JCYCLE Community Bike Ride – by riding and donating – to raise funds so that more local kids can experience the joy of Jewish summer camp.
