Hello International Grad Students, Post-Docs, and their trusty supporters!

Welcome to your new newsletter, the Global Graduate Gazette -- just for you!
This newsletter is exclusively for serving International Graduate Students, Post-docs, and the wonderful people who support their success. It's brand new, so let me know your impressions of it and what I can add to make it more useful to you. To start with: you can vote on which newsletter logo you like better.
Every month, we'll share this newsletter to keep you updated on upcoming workshops, services, and resources that might help support international student success. And I promise to close out each newsletter with something small to make you smile.

Searching for Stellar Scholars!

Every month we'll spotlight an international scholar (graduate student, post-doc, or visiting scholar) who will tell us just a little bit about themselves and their resarch. E-mail Julia, the Peer Advisor, and nominate someone (including yourself!) whose research, work ethic, attitude, or other qualities you admire! It's just a simple one-sentence nomination. Nominate someone here for the Scholar Spotlight today -- it's super quick and easy, and you'll make their day!

Cell Phone Etiquette in Japan

I was entering the train in Kyoto when my keitai went off loudly, and I received the icey stares of dozens of passengers. That was when I learned that when in certain public places in Japan, it is considered best manners to keep your cell phone on silent mode, or "manners mode," including especially on public transportation. Have an urgent conversation? Take it off the bus, or switch the convo over to text instead.
Here in Time Zone Tales, we'll share an intercultural awareness tip for any country to increase cross-cultural understanding and help you navigate the nuances of the globalized world. If you have a tip or a story to share, e-mail me here! We want to hear your fun, funny, scary, or intriguing stories!

Come to the Graduate Writers' Room!

It's natural for students to face writing blocks. Sometimes, just even a slight change in location and environment can get things going. Whether they are working on their first seminar paper, putting the finishing touches on their dissertation, or just trying to catch up on some grading, the Graduate Writers' Room is here for them. They get to work alongside their fellow graduate students, all while enjoying snacks and the best free coffee (and creamer!) on campus!
Times:
Mondays and Wednesdays: 1-4 p.m.
Tuesdays and Thursdays: 9 a.m.- noon
Location:
Student Resource Building, Room 1103
