Dear Faculty, Teaching Staff and Doctoral Students,
We hope this email finds you well and excited for the upcoming academic year. As we prepare to embark on new journeys of learning and growth, we are excited to continue the work started with Drs. Grace Kim and Karen Suyemoto, who joined us in April to talk about Transformative Education as an approach to teaching about diversity in higher education.
The work will continue this Fall with a Silver Community Book Club centering their book (co-written with Dr. Roxanne A. Donovan), Teaching Diversity Relationally: Embracing Emotions and Embracing Possibilities. The book naturally follows the arc of the semester, from the planning phase all the way to wrapping up the course. Therefore our community goal is to complete the book and book club meetings by mid-December. Copies of the book will be available free to all participants who did not pick one up at the spring workshop.
What is involved?
~3 hours a month of reading and reflection from August-December
Attend our Monthly (Zoom) Book Club Meetings on August 30, October 2, and November 1 (all 11-12pm) OR start your own reading group with your colleagues and peers.
Use of group time to share your responses to reflective questions in the chapters
