State of IN decides to use traditional unemployment app as screening tool.
April 10, 2020

Dear IAR Member,

Thank you for your patience as we 1) waited for the U.S. Department of Labor to issue guidance to states regarding the new Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program included in the federal stimulus package – Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act – and 2) worked with the Department of Workforce Development to roll out the PUA program here in Indiana. States received guidance late last Sunday night and DWD staff has been hard at work this week preparing for implementation. There’s still a ways to go, but they have made one decision that you need to know about.
We asked members to wait for direction from the state prior to applying for benefits. DWD has since decided to use the traditional unemployment insurance application process as a screening tool. REALTORS® should now apply for unemployment with the understanding that they will more than likely be denied. That’s ok. We’ll reveal the next steps as soon as we know them.
If you’ve already applied for unemployment and been denied, you needn’t do anything further at this point.

Again, thank you for your patience. Please continue to take care and reach out with questions.
