President's Message

I cannot believe that we are in April, will someone tell me where the first 3 months of 2016 disappeared to?
Membership organized a fantastic New Member Mixer in March.  It was so well attended and really good to meet and get to know new members.  Thank you to Ben Arvizu, Tracy Cabral and Meaghan O’Brien for organizing the event, and to Ben for devising the great mixer game.  It always amazes me what fascinating stories people have to tell; you just don’t know how interesting people are unless you ask.
I am looking forward to the BOMA San Diego Expo on April 12th.  I love that our Expo is not as huge as some exhibitions and are always jam packed with relevant, educational and interesting information.  Remember that entry is free to Property Managers, and you don’t have to be a BOMA SD member.  Please encourage any property managers you may know to attend.
Don’t forget: the deadline to apply for the Jack Moshgat Scholarship Awards Program is April 15th.  The application is available on the BOMA SD website and I would encourage anyone interested in expanding their career in commercial real estate to apply.  It is free money and can be used towards any RPA, FMA or SMA Institute Class, as well as toward the BOMA Foundations of Real Estate Management Course (starting on April 22nd).
Happy Spring and I look forward to seeing you at the next BOMA San Diego event.

BOMA 2016 Annual EXPO

Please Join us Tuesday April 12th for our BOMA Earth Day Expo and enter into the important conversation of making our buildings more sustainable.  Not just our buildings themselves, but how we operate and manage them as well.  To make our buildings more green, we need to ask ourselves the following: What strategies do we have in place? How are our contracted services impacted? What innovative products are available? What are others in our industry doing?  These and many more questions will be answered on April 12th. Great ideas, wonderful networking, and education on the latest sustainable offerings can all be found under one roof.  prizes, drawings, games, giveaways, and food are yours at the 2016 BOMA earth day expo.

We hope to see you there at BOMA San Diego's 2016 Expo!
2016 Winter Business Meeting & National Issues Conference
Last month, delegates from BOMA San Diego traveled to Washington D.C. for BOMA International’s annual business meeting and issues conference. As always, BOMA International did a wonderful job of ensuring relevant programming and informative seminars. The trip concluded with visits from members of the Government Affairs Committee to our San Diego representatives advocating on behalf of the organization on three key issues: Fire Sprinkler Tax Incentives, Energy Efficiency Tax Incentives, and ADA Notice and Compliance issues.

March Luncheon: Recap
On March 8, BOMA membership gathered once again at the popular luncheon location, Tom Ham’s Lighthouse. With our city freshly washed by rain, the downtown skyline was glistening across the bay.

BOMA San Diego membership enjoyed a unique presentation highlighting one of San Diego’s most enjoyed industries: Beer. Bill Hooper of H.G. Fenton presented Brewery Ignited.

New Member Mixer 2016
"We helped deliver a baby on the side of the road", "My parachute didn’t open until the 3000ft mark", "I was looking down a double barrel shotgun", and finally, " I married a nice smelling man from Costco whose name I tattooed on my back 6 years before we met".

These and many more were the unique stories that won the New Member Mixer's ice breaker last night. We had a blast and shared great stories while connecting with new friends.
