Honoring Our Administrators this Black History Month
For the first time in A.G. Rhodes’ history, all three administrators leading the A.G. Rhodes Homes are Black women. As Black History Month comes to a close—and as we look forward to celebrating Women’s History Month and Long-Term Care Administrator’s Week in March—we share a little more about our administrators and why they pursued their callings to serve in long-term care.

Volunteer Shows Elders How to LEGO and Have a Good Time
Thanks to volunteer JP York, A.G. Rhodes is adding a new activity to its calendar: playing with LEGOs.

LEGOs aren’t just for kids; they are popular with all ages, and are increasingly being used in senior care settings as another opportunity for older adults to exercise their fine motor skills along with their creative muscles.

“I like it because I need it to make my hands work,” said A.G. Rhodes elder Lee Svensson. “It’s fun; I enjoy working with them.”

Elder Pam Parr agrees: “I like to do things with my hands, and I like to make up stuff as I go along.”

JP says he’s always loved playing with LEGOs, and he comes from a family that has been volunteering in nursing homes for years. He saw an opportunity to bring his hobby to the elders at the A.G. Rhodes homes, and the verdict is out: This activity is built to last!

“If you make a mistake, it can be corrected,” said elder Beverly Green. “It’s just fun; it gets your mind off the serious things.”
A.G. Rhodes Atlanta Celebrates Legacy Employees
Our flagship location recently celebrated our Legacy Care Partners and honored all employees who have 20+ years of service. That includes four employees who reached special milestones of 35 years. We also honored Randy Brewer, CNA (pictured right), who celebrates 45 years and  is our longest-tenured employee. In all, 20 Care Partners have 20+ years at A.G. Rhodes for a grand total of 579 collective years of serving our residents, our families and our mission!
Congratulations to all on achieving these incredible milestones!
Happenings in our Homes
The year may have just started, but we've already had lots of great things happen in our homes!
We send a special thank you to teen volunteer Benjamin Blackwood for collaborating with our Horticultural Therapy program to complete his Eagle Scout project. Ben was part of our Generation Connect summer camp last year and decided to support our residents and their starvine plant conservation efforts by building nursery benches that will allow residents to grow starvine in an accessisble and organized manner. Congratulations, Ben, on your Eagle Scout achievement and thank you for lettting us be a part of it.
And we thank all of our volunteers and community partners for all you do to ensure our elders live well and thrive, including the Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center who helped us take a group of elders to the Atlanta Sympony Orchestra; volunteers from The Lovett School who worked alongside elders to assemble toiletry kits on MLK Day to be donated to local shelters; Cisco volunteers who held an on-site Valentine's Day card making project and delivered them to A.G. Rhodes; the Junior League Peach Pipes who are going on 30 years of bringing the joy of music to our homes; and Tri-Cities High School's cosmetology program who held a spa day at our home complete with manicures!
Going the Extra Mile
Earlier this month, Team A.G. Rhodes participated in the "Hot Chocolate" run in Centennial Park, choosing to run or walk the 5K or 15K race option. As part of A.G. Rhodes' LiveWell Employee Wellness Program, Care Partners have various opportunities throughout the year to participate in races and other wellness events in the community. This annual event is definitely a favorite - that cup of hot chocolate at the end of the race is so delicious!

I also want to give special thanks to...(Ms.) Etheridge for providing us with all the details about the facility and going over board to get us all the information and answers we need.
