🐟 Sardine Advisory Lifted: Regional sardine samples showed domoic acid is now below the federal action level, allowing the CA Dept of Public Health to lift the restriction on human consumption of Pacific sardine in Southern California.
-
California Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Bulletin
-
The March-April 2025 CA HAB Bulletin summarizes a major domoic acid (DA) event. The ecological impacts observed surpassed those of the past four years, with toxins affecting CA sea lions and other pinnipeds, dolphins, sea birds, larger cetaceans, and producing multiple seafood advisories.
-
2025 SoCal Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) Data Flyer
-
SCCOOS has compiled PSP HAB data (observations of Alexandrium spp. and PSP toxins) in the Southern CA region from December to April 2025, including: weekly HABMAP sampling and CA Dept of Public Health data.
- 2025 SoCal Domoic Acid (DA) Data Flyer
- SCCOOS has compiled DA HAB data (observations of Pseudo-nitzschia spp. and domoic acid) in the Southern CA region from December to April 2025, including: weekly HABMAP sampling, continuous Imaging Flowcytobot (IFCB) data, CA Dept of Public Health data, and suspected domoic acid animal stranding reports from marine mammal rescue centers.
- 2025 SoCal DA + PSP HAB Informational Flyer
- SCCOOS has developed a two-page informational poster to explain the science of HAB observing in the context of the recent SoCal HABs.
- ⚠️ To report stranded, injured, or dead marine mammals along the West Coast, stay 100 yards (300 feet) away and call the West Coast Region Stranding Hotline: (866) 767-6114
