The South Shore YMCA Strypers will offer a free public screening of the uplifting, award-winning documentary Swim Team on Tuesday, July 18th at 7:00PM at Laura’s Center for the Arts.
Swim Team is an inspiring look at the rise of a competitive swim team of teens on the autism spectrum. Following three teammates on the cusp of adulthood, Swim Team is a portrait of diverse American families grappling with the problem of athletes "aging out," as supportive government services become scarce. The film explores the overwhelming struggles they face over the course of a year and the triumphs they achieve as they strive for independence, inclusion, and a life that feels like winning.
Swim Team will pull at your heartstrings as it demonstrates what the sport of swimming can do to uplift people of all abilities. YMCA staff, including members of the Y Inclusion Team, will be in attendance to discuss the South Shore YMCA’s mission, its life changing programs, and what you can do to support them. Light refreshments will be served at this evening of sharing and inspiration. For more information, contact Bernie Dickman, Director of Competitive Swimming, at bdickman@ssymca.org.
