Over the past four decades, Homewatch CareGivers has cultivated a reputation for providing outstanding home care that focuses on the whole person so each plan is customized. High standards are at the core of everything we do. Homewatch CareGivers Total Care Solutions enables people to age in place with dignity, and on their own terms, by offering several flexible levels of service.

Active Care is tailored to people who don’t need an in-home caregiver yet but could benefit from virtual care touch-points via Homewatch Connect. This allows us to monitor the person’s well-being, provide some face-to-face interaction, and preserve their independence as long as possible.

Wellness Care is based on traditional companionship care and offers a broad range of services, such as socialization and togetherness, household chores, meal planning and preparation, medication reminders, and transportation services.

Personal Care provides hands-on help for those who need assistance with daily activities such as dressing, mobility assistance, and incontinence care. Regular visits with a caregiver also offer companionship to address feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Transition Care is for those who are returning home from a hospital or rehabilitation center. A consistent care team will handle the discharge details, provide transportation for the person to get home safely, ensure the home doesn’t pose mobility issues, and provide support throughout their recovery.

Care On Demand is ideal for people who don’t need regular home care visits but do require occasional help. For example, this level of care can fill in the gaps between family caregiver visits. A wide range of services are available with Care On Demand, including companionship care to counteract social isolation to personal care hands-on assistance. Having a professional caregiver in the home who can communicate identified concerns with a care specialist helps to ensure the right kind and amount of care is being provided.

Specialized Care is provided by caregivers with advanced skill sets to support clients with chronic conditions, such as those living with dementia, people recovering from cardiac events, or those in palliative or hospice care. In some situations, there may be a Registered Nurse (RN) on the care team.

Tips & Resources for

 Veteran Familes new to VA

Whether your veteran served in the military for 4 years or 20, transitioning to civilian life can be a challenge.  If your loved one is aging, healing, or dealing with PTSD, then this can be a very confusing time!  Understanding how to access the benefits and services available through the VA is crucial for ensuring that your family receives the support it deserves. This guide offers tips and resources to help veteran families get started with the VA.

Understanding Eligibility and Benefits

The first step for veteran families new to the VA is understanding the range of benefits available. These benefits include health care, disability compensation, education and training, home loans, life insurance, and more. Eligibility for these benefits typically depends on the veteran's service history, type of discharge, and specific needs.

To determine eligibility, it's essential to gather key documents, such as the veteran's DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty). This document is crucial for verifying service and will be required when applying for most VA benefits. If you don't have a copy, you can request it through the National Archives or online through the VA's eBenefits portal.

Registering for VA Health Care

One of the most important resources available through the VA is health care. Veterans can access comprehensive medical services, including preventive care, mental health services, and specialty treatments. Family members may also be eligible for certain health benefits, such as CHAMPVA (Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs) for dependents of disabled or deceased veterans.

We are an Authorized VA service provider.  To find out if you’re eligible for services call the VA at: 973.676.1000 extension 201803.  Let them know you need home care services and ask for Homewatch Caregivers of Woodbridge to be listed as the servicing Home Care Agency.

Utilizing VA Home Loan Programs

If you are caring for a veteran, or you are a veteran caring for another family member, you may be able to use the VA Home Loan Program to ensure that your home is a safe environment for health and healing.  Whether you need ramps, wider doors, or maybe trade your large home for a smaller one, this program offers favorable loan terms, including no down payment requirements and lower interest rates, to help veterans and their families buy, build, or improve a home.

To apply for a VA home loan, start by obtaining a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) through the VA's eBenefits portal. Then, work with a lender that participates in the VA Home Loan Program to explore your options and find the best loan for your family's needs.

Connecting with Veteran Service Organizations

Navigating the VA system can be challenging, but you don't have to do it alone. Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) like the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and Disabled American Veterans (DAV) offer invaluable support. These organizations have trained service officers who can assist with everything from filing claims to understanding benefits and advocating on your behalf.

Connecting with a local VSO can provide personalized guidance and help you maximize the benefits available through the VA. Many of these organizations also offer community support and networking opportunities for veteran families.

Navigating the VA system may seem daunting, but with the right information and resources, veteran families can access the benefits and support they deserve. At Homewatch CareGivers of Woodbridge, we can also help!  Contact us today to learn more about the different resources and services we can provide to assist you and your loved one through your caregiving journey.  It is always an honor and a privilege to serve those who have served.
